This is an amazing question, and honestly one I don't think enough people truly ask themselves. Personally, I think love is far deeper than 'feelings' as all feelings come and go. On top of which, I am a serious, blunt, commitment kind of guy whenever it comes to these things, so take what I say with a bit of salt.
I enjoy and find myself craving their company-- not every now and again, but their constant company. I trust slow and am a hard friend to earn. So if you have made it past acquaintance, I like you for company, but I don't wanna be around you 24/7. I like my own space too, *if* you're just a friend. Close friends are more welcome to crash at my place, because to me, they are like a family.
Next, I usually notice myself staring into their eyes a LOT. I usually only do that with one of two kinds of people; the ones I distrust as I can read the majority easily by looking them dead in the eye, OR because I genuinely care about your well-being and am captivated by their presence.
A rare feat to accomplish with me, so it's easy for me to identify.
Later on, I find myself asking myself this very question, but a bit differently; should I let myself love them, and can I see a future with them? Yes, you read that right. For me, I make a mental decision of whether or not I go to the next level. If I do, it feels like a dam breaks and I have feelings, overly gently and concerned with their well-being 10x that which I was before. And it only continues to grow from there.
But hey, I've only been in two relationships. Something to consider. At the end of the day, you need to find that answer out for yourself. I hope this post helps you find that answer

If it is a Romantic interest, you can imagine yourself kissing and embracing each other (and anything of the like). If it is a Friend feeling, you simply enjoy spending time with them and being in their presence.
