Friends with benefits is about sex, not feelings. If he thinks you have feelings, that changes the arrangement, putting pressure on him to consider more than just sex. He responded negatively, as he has no interest in having more than just sex with you. He didn't want you to change the rules after agreeing to the contract. If you have difficulty having sex without feelings forming, then maybe a friends with benefits arrangement isn't ideal for you.
