Why did my friends with benefits get mad when I asked him about his feelings about me seeing other guys?

I was seeing this guy for a while. We never got too serious. I told him I didn’t want to see him if he was seeing someone else. Not because of feelings but because of STDs. He said he wasn’t but wasn’t going to get serious with me. I asked him if he would be upset if I was dating someone else and his response in an angry tone was “that’s none of my business”. Why was he angry?

I wasn’t seeing anyone. It was my way of trying to find out his boundaries about seeing other people because of STDs. He didn’t want a commitment and I did. I kept it casual then left because I wanted more. I respected where he stood.
