"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her"
Ephesians 5:25 AMPC
A husband is called to love sacrificially. All that wife must obey crap is taken so far out of context it's like going to the city centre via Timbuktu and the pyramids - all of them worldwide.
A man can't do that in his own strength. Paul's point in all the letters is that we can't do it ourselves.
As men we are called to love, honour, respect and even worship our wives. He likens us to Adam, the point being that Eve didn't sin - she was deceived. Adam's action in eating the fruit was sin. He wilfully disobeyed God.
We are to be the wife's spiritual head, just as Christ is the Head of the Church, that she is sanctified by his leadership.
In many ways modern western society has blinded both genders to our roles. As secularism floods the airwaves, TV and magazines Godly roles get obliterated by the fad of the moment. And often men who are genuinely Godly are labelled as either so weak they're pathetic or so misogynistic they're unbearable.
If you really want to know, read "Wild at Heart" by John Eldredge.
If i recall right, its the man's role to lead, protect, and provide.
changed to a DOOM prator token
I think it says not to worry about what it says since whatever it does say was written thousands of years ago and is completely irrelevant in 2021. :)
It's not an opinion that it was written thousands of years ago.
Are writings of the ancient Greek and Roman Philosophers outdated?
Yup. You are an adult. You can decide for yourself :)
I'm 💯 with @supercutebutt
Bible is scam 😂
😂😂
Providers , leaders, and respectful which they modern American man isn’t. Most of these men aren’t in the church and they don’t respect women.

This is a great question.
The most basic answer is that it's one of sanctification and love. There are actually some fairly heavy requirements of the husband in marriage, but you really only see and understand them if you understand what the Church is and what the family is and is directed towards.
You're welcome. Been a lot of questions about that around here today.
I've read the Bible here and there, and I understand that a man's role is to lead, protect, and provide.
It's not necessarily because that's what men are *supposed* to do, but because that's how they naturally are. Men are natural risk-takers, we are driven to take initiative, sometimes at our own expense.
No where in the Bible have I read that men are supposed to "dominate" women. Some people point to Genesis 3:6, but that passage appears to be stating a prediction, of what WILL happen, not what SHOULD happen.
I could be wrong, though. I haven't read the whole damn thing.
It say's a line about to love as Christ loved the church but countless times there is of Jesus not loving church in fact he was very much ageist the Jews and church at the time.
But hey when you point out a contradiction in the bible they will just say well i interpret it differently so who cares.
1) That wasn't the "church". The Church didn't begin until Christ built it from his disciples.
2) Sure, he had disagreements with many of the Jewish leaders. They were hypocritical and were more concerned about legalism than the heart. So he tried to teach them the right way but it mostly fell on deaf ears. But Jesus said, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." And that's what he came to Earth for - to give his life for us. And that's the kind of love a husband should have: unconditional agape love.
1) Jesus didn't build churches he had no awareness of such things the first one wasn't even made until 200 so years after him smh
2) the equivalent to a church at the time was a synagogue which is what i was referring to.
3) he was still ageist these jews.
4) he never gave himself up for a church, he in fact gave himself up to forgive everyone for there sins everyone knows that.
1) You really should study the Bible more. Read Matthew 16:18. No, he didn't build "churches". He built THE Church; HIS Church.
2) I know what YOU were referring to, but that's not biblical.
3) As I said, he was against what they were teaching but he still loved them (as I tried to explain).
4) In your first comment you refer to Ephesians 5:25. I guess you forgot what it says: "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it" Yes, he died for everyone, but "everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins." (Acts 10:43) When someone believes and accepts him then they become a part of his Church.
Not an interpretation. No one debates that fact. Did you read Matt. 16:18? Another word for the Church is "the Body of Christ". Obviously, that's not literal; it figurative. But a church is not a building; it's the people -- similar to how sometimes Jesus talked about the temple but meant his own body. However, a temple IS a building (not the people). That's why temple and church are not synonymous.
well, obviously i've never read it all ain't a Christian. So what did he mean by church? Since church's did not exist back then was the meaning? Temples existed and he used that as metaphor which made sense because people got the idea and understood what temples are. But since church's didn't exist and that word would of meant nothing?
Or did that word have an original meaning? before the church took it to mean the buildings we see today? And funny that he was ageist the ideas of people taking places of worships and using them in such way's but did it himself and years years later the pope is basically sat there doing the same thing.
When he complained about jews abusing there power, There is tons of evidence of Christians doing the same thing with the churches so jesus just created a loop there. And looks like hades does overcome it quite a lot in history. Not fully of course since there is still many i am sure good people who follow him. But there is still many who've used it for bad.
I thought I already explained it. The Church is all of the believers (Christians) in the world. And you can say that there are individual churches but those are smaller groups of people. At some point in the last few centuries (after the reformation) most people started to define it as buildings that the people worship in. Matthew 16:18 was the first time that we know of that the word was ever used. His disciples may not have known what he meant at the time, but they did eventually.
Welp the only thing that confuses me now is that he died for everyone sins not just believers. So saying his church is still wrong since that would only mean his followers.
Should just be more "Love your wife as even Jesus loves people" guess it don't have the same biblical way of speak but eh would of been more accurate. Unless if Jesus only loves the church but then that wouldn't be all loving so... eh.
Well, Jesus said to love our enemies, and he loved the world (that's everyone living in the world) that he gave his life for us. And when he was being tortured, he said, Father, forgive them. And like I said, we just have to accept that gift he gave us. If someone is willing to give their life to save yours, wouldn't you be grateful and accept it, and be willing to change your life?
There is no reason for special club aka The Chruch if he loves everyone then. And there is no need for a gift to only go to some people not all if he loves all anyway. There is no need to accept his love for him to love everyone. Otherwise that wouldn't be loving everyone that would only be loving subjectively your followers.
So there is either no death for me even tho i don't accept him or Jesus ain't all loving take your pick. And then you have the bible contradicting it's self on which one you answer.
Since one would contradict the idea he was all loving and the other would contradict Hades. You wouldn't kill what you love even if it don't want you.
God doesn't kill; He gives life. Those who face damnation bring it on themselves.
Like I said, the gift is for everyone. They just have to accept it.
You can say it's a "special club" but it's more of a family. When someone accepts the "gift" they become part of the family of God.
Committing a sin is like committing a crime. When someone is convicted of a crime they see a judge. God is the ultimate judge -- but Jesus is an advocate (lawyer). When someone seeks forgiveness and repents, Jesus says to the Father that this person has been redeemed. Jesus and the Father are one, and "God is love", and that love sets them (us) free.
So you think that everyone should go to heaven and no one should go to hell? Or just those who YOU think should?
"My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. (Isaiah 55:8)
God knows best. We have to trust him. That's what faith is all about. "It is by grace you have been saved, through faith" (Ephesians 2:8)
1 Corinthians 13: Love is patient, love is kind [a judge is patient and should be kind]. ... It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres [a judge can do those things]. ... faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
1 John 4: He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
It's not about going to heaven or hell.
It's about if your so called are all loving, You would accept everyone as they are warts and all including accepting those who reject you. Your not accepting them if you judge them differently. It's as simple as that. And your quotes here are pointless to my point.
I've said this very simple premise of all loving 3 times now, and you haven't given any good response back all you can do is quote lines that prove my point that he is judge who isn't all loving so thank you. I understand you believe he is not all loving and just a god that want's to punish those who seem bad to him or didn't follow him.
No need to respond if all you gonna do is respond with more quotes that prove my point, that he ain't all loving.
Be responsible.
Love his wife.
Treat her with delicate hands.
To abandon his family carries harsh penalties.
If a man doesn't work he should not eat.
H - have you read the Bible?
@sensible27 the whole thing, start to finish, three times. Why?
bible says that it's ok to have like 300 concubines. which is basically a prostitute that lives in your house for long term services. we should all live more according to the bible, if you ask me.
i mean we could even have slaves and it would be ok to hit them as much as we want, as long as they survive for at least 3 days after we hit them.
the bible is just overall a great book, that more people should live by.
and yes, i do speak fluent sarcasm.
The Bible does not say it’s ok to have concubines. Solomon for example was one of Israel’s kings. Scripture records Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. Scripture records this fact as a historical event. It does not condone this, in fact it condemns it here:
“And he shall not acquire many wives for himself, lest his heart turn away, nor shall he acquire for himself excessive silver and gold.”
Deuteronomy 17:17 ESV
Scripture tells the events of the Old Testament recorded these things as an example for us, sometimes as an example of things we should do, and sometimes as an example of things not to do.
“Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did.”
1 Corinthians 10:6 ESV
“Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.”
1 Corinthians 10:11 ESV
In regards to slavery, here is a good essay explaining slavery and what scripture has to say about it. You are very far off in your assertions about what the Bible would allow you to do with slaves if you were hypothetically allowed to acquire them. Scripture does not specifically condemn slavery, and does heavily regulate it. That said scripture is not merely mechanical. Because something is not mentioned does not mean it is ok.
https://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-slavery.html
Jesus said this:
“The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.””
Mark 12:31 ESV
So I ask you, if one loved his neighbor as himself how could he enslave his neighbor against his will? Wouldn’t that command to love your neighbor as yourself all but eliminate most cases of slavery being acceptable? Perhaps taking a slave from POW’s in war might be acceptable. The Greeks, Romans, and all ancient cultures did this, at that time total war was how warfare was done, and it was not racially based.
So it is good you speak sarcasm fluently. I consider myself to be quite good at it myself, but may I suggest it’s best to be familiar with a subject intimately before dropping sarcasm bombs so you don’t look foolish by making inaccurate claims?
ah the good old bible quoting appologist that always finds a quote for whatever opinion he holds and never cares to read the bible in context to see that whatever the bible says is pretty much contradicted at some other page. the perfect book to hide ones ignorant opinion behind, cause it says all that you want XD
well guess if you consider how the bible was thrown together, the saying "too many cooks spoil the broth" holds all the more true.
www.youtube.com/watch
here's some amusement for you. if you want, you can play along and look at the pages
so excuse that i'm not intersted in having a rational discussion about what the bible actually says, cause there's no point. when a book says a and b, it's piontless getting in an argument about whether it says a or b.
Well, God didn't exactly tell people to have concubines, men did because they weren't satisfied and always sought for more, basically just like nowadays. From the beginning, it shouldn't have been like that, it was supposed to be a man married to a wife, but then again, humans as always tend to never be satisfied
@averageguy
Agreed. We must look at scripture in light of prior prescience and contextually within any passage. You are quite correct. God never condoned concubines. These things are written for our benefit. That we can see examples of people doing both right and wrong. If the king was not to multiply wives, certainly he could not multiply concubines, and since he wasn’t married to the concubines it would constitute fornication. Also a sin. We know Solomon was one of the wisest men who ever lived. We know at the beginning of his reign he was fairly godly. By the end of his reign…. well frankly there was major moral decline in his life. The decline was staggering. God did not want the king multiplying wives to himself lest they turn his heart astray. That is exactly what happened and God called it before Israel even had kings in Deuteronomy 17:17.
The Bible says a lot of things about the mans role being the head of the house hold to treat your wife as Jesus would and all that and of course it say a lot of different things about what people should do or shouldn’t do like how women aren’t supposed to speak in church or you can take it as women shouldn’t teach or address the congregation in the church
As long as you are speaking bible, in christ genders do not matters but faith which works by love. Marriage is not a definition of roles but a team effort to accomplishing all tasks.
Marriage is seen as a replica of Christ and the church with Christ as the head and the question is who was Christ? He was a servant leader and also many times people met His needs.
The key is to ignore roles and just zero in on love according to 1Cor13.
It only speaks in terms of marriage. It says the man is to be the head of the house. It says he is to love his wife as Christ loves the church.
👍👍
"Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her"
Ephesian 5 25
To provide for and lead his family. The man is the head of his house like Christ is the head of the church. Wives are supposed to raise children and keep the home.
That a man commands his wife and that a good wife obeys her husband.
No idea mate, I'd like to think any influential book say's just be a nice guy and do the right thing, so that's what I'm going to say lol
If the husband and wife did what was written in the bible than the word divorce wouldn't have existed!
Providing, if you go to the new testament it gets even more radical, it commands husbands to sacrifice themselves to their wives and be as forgiving as jesus.
lol!
The quote I live my life by: If your daughter be raped, force the rapist to compensate you and marry your daughter.
That's rather off, it's not exactly rape in that case, the verse you're stating uses a different Hebrew. It's the hebrew for someone being manipulated into having sex but still willfully had sexual relations with the person. Rape was punishable by death in the old testament, the one you're mentioning isn't the same case
@AverageGuy9037 Your holy book is deviant as fck. Deuteronomy 22:24: If she failed to resist when she could have done so, the law viewed the situation as consensual sex, not rape
Thats a judgement the priests decided on probably by analyzing what had happened to raped women and what was the best course of action. No one wanted them
Yes and how they came up with that law
Man provides the house, woman makes it a home, it's all Yin and Yang,,,
He leads, provides, protects and has final say in the household. The wife must obey him.
He is head of the household , which means he has final decision
Nothing is specific. Only rules and laws to live life by.
The one with the talking snake and the naked people always gets me.
All kinds of interesting and sometimes contradicting things.
Who takes the bible seriously?
Suck up to god and oppress the women.
I don't know
Shhh... now all of G@G knows...
We are out of the closet!!!
