At your age, you're learning about relationships, not committing for life. It is hard to commit before you even know what a relationship really is, what works for you and what you bring to a relationship. Yes, you'll find yourself distracted by situations that give you greater insight into yourself. That's just part of the exploration and discovery phase.
At this point, can you honestly say you know exactly what you'll be doing as a career and how you will be impacted by that experience? As you learn more about careers and yourself, you'll keep coming to forks in the road. At each fork, you'll choose one path or another, based on your acquired knowledge from previous experiences. I enjoy watching my son as he continues to fine tune his life's choices. With each new choice, he doesn't leave his past behind, but his past adds more dimensions to his new experiences.
Can you honestly say you'll be sharing a hotdog with your partner on your 50th wedding anniversary? What if you discover something better during your years together? Do you really want to be limited by a decision you made decades ago? There was a time when you believed you couldn't live without your baby bottle. Do you still yearn for that bottle? We can't predict the future, but we can be true to our experiences and the knowledge we acquire during them. Don't beat yourself up for something that is natural and part of your growing process. Someday in the future, you'll laugh at memories of silly things you did in the past that were very meaningful at the time.
