Not spending new year with boyfriend yet again?

His family lives abroad and he left to see them for the festive period.
He left on the 11th so quite a while ago.

He won't be returning and told me that I can come but if I go and catch covid I can't quarantine because I can't work from home and the lady from work is already onto me.
He on the other hand can work from home and we never spent new year's together because he always left to spend it in his home country.
8 year relationship.

Not sure what to this there?

Am I right to be sad that he won't come for new year's yet again?

I would be upset if I were you. I'm not really sure what you can do about it though, aside from telling him it's important to you that you spend new years together.

I already told him that I was upset that we are not spending NY together (again) and that I always dreamed of spending it in London (we live in UK).
I didn't push the London idea last year because of covid and this year I am kind of talking about it but I'm not mad because you know, Omicron and all but damn
... I thought maybe at least we could spend it together and he would come back earlier
