How can I get my boyfriend to let me wear "short" shorts and skirts?

And by "short" I mean above my knees. It's so unnecessary. Other guys will look at me anyway and we shouldn't care what they think. And I hate long skirts, I myself am too short for them. I hate looking in the mirror and feeling like a stupid kid or a frumpy old lady. I just want to feel cute. He's not the only person in the relationship who's opinion matters.

He isn’t in a position to let you anything. You are a human being with agency and free will who gets to put your own clothes on in the morning, unless he is dressing you as well? Many men would enjoy the jealousy that having a sexy girlfriend would inspire in the men around them, but his insecurity is worth more to him than making other men jealous? That is highly unusual.

Is there anything about him which he is justifiably insecure (at least in his own head) about? I’m subjectively a fan of dresses or long skirts, but that doesn’t mean I tell my wife her yoga pants are no good or not to wear them. We had a chat about it and she made some really good points about having to chase kids and they’re more comfortable and that’s her style at this point in life as a mother of young children, so I stopped trying to convince her to voluntarily go back to how she used to dress. He could justly have s conversation with you in which he would explain why he’d rather you dress more conservatively and try to convince you to do it voluntarily, but ordering you to do it is a different story. You aren’t his property, the nations of the western world fought wars and created legislation to end human slavery in their territories in the 19th century.

DUMP HIM. Lol but yeah no seriously, you let a guy dictate how you dress? Controlling much ay? Now if YOU want to dress that way for him is one thing, but yeah no you shouldn't feel oppressed. That's crazy. That's unhealthy. He'll end up wanting to control more of you until you won't be able to recognize freedom anymore. And thats pretty damn scary.

unless you're wearing shorts/skirts that are barely past underwear length, your boyfriend is being possessive. try talking to him a bit about it, and if he doesn't give you the freedom to wear what you want to wear then just break up with him.

Are you asking me what "let" means in this circumstance. Normally he's telling me that he doesn't like short skirts, complaining about the possibility of me being looked at by other guys, and telling me worse things to wear. "Let" would mean he gets over his unnecessary insecurity and won't get upset at me for wearing things that actually look good and are practical for the weather. I don't want attention, and I don't want to feel ugly just because gross men exist.

Girl, I hope you choose to wear things that make you feel cute/pretty/hot because you like them. Your boyfriend needs to accept that guys are going to look, because that’s what guys do.
