Getting a house before getting married?

So I want to get this house my boyfriend still stays with his dad and I stay with my mom. I got some money and cleared out my debt to raise my credit. The house is over $300k my boyfriend thinks it's too much but the mortgage would be around $1500 per month, which is a lot but I got the money for it. He's a fireman and he thinks a house that's under $100k is a good deal. It is but the houses in our area for that price aren't very good or in good neighborhoods. So I want to get this house, we're not married yet and it feels like if I wait for him we'll never move into anywhere so I'm getting my own place.
