Would a normal person say this or am I overthinking?

Me and my husband have a toddler and a baby on the way. The baby was crying and he took the pillow and pretended like he was going to put the pillow over her head. And he said" he said hush I'm going to suffocate you". I immediately grabbed the baby and cuddled. And I started cussing him out. He said he was playing but now I don't look at him the same anymore. Now he's playing victim like I'm over thinking it.

I'm pretty sure he was only teasing, trying to make light of the situation. I think you need to look at it from his side and not assume the worst of him. Sounds like a misunderstanding. If I were in his position and were a female, I'd probably joke about that too.

Yeah it’s not uncommon that parents say/think these things. Most probably don’t say it out loud but I know it’s common to think things like you want to throw them out the window, off the balcony, maybe just ”accidentally” drop you down the stairs, leave you in the forrest. Things like that. Sounds dark and horrible, but it’s reality and common. I’ve had it confirmed by midwives and doctors and also heard/seen parents say they’ve had these thoughts. It doesn’t mean they actually want to or ever would do it. It’s just out of frustration, feeling of helplessness and sleep deprevation.

Was it in a joking tone? I insult my dog in a tone of voice that makes her excited and happy. When my cousin (he's 18 now) was a newborn, my mom was playing with him and once said "how annoying is this game, so annoying" in happy and playful voice. It really depends on how he says things to a baby that doesn't understand him, not what he says.

Actually no I am sorry. You need to get a divorce. If you know your husband that little that you would look at him differently that quick... then you don't know him and never did. Your behavior concerns me more than his. You're going to ruin your marriage.

Nope, he went too far to claim he was joking and I would watch your toddler around him cause he sounds like a crazy man with major mental issues and no dad would do that to any child
