They wouldn't put in the effort to argue if they didn't care?

I've always had this saying of if they didn't care they wouldn't bother wasting their energy to argue. Opinions?

Not necessarily true. Some people are toxic and like to argue and throw insults. Also it's easy to sit down and verbally argue back and forth.

True but I like it better than them just disappearing without any explanation at all. I know people that have been together for years and that's all they do is argue. I guess arguing is still communicating and that's the key to making things last.

Very true. I think arguing is necessary, but there is a difference between toxic arguing and upbuilding arguing. I'd say toxic arguing is about name calling, degrading, trying to beat someone's point for the sake of it. I don't think that behaviour means someone cares. If someone argues to respectfully show their feelings, understand your side, and try find a compromise, that is healthy arguing and they care.
