Just a brief story – over 20 years ago on a slow night in a small restaurant a handsome young man with a smile said it one of my tables. I was studying to get a postgraduate degree at the time and only worked on the weekends. He did not ask me out that night, and I was disappointed. A bit later in the month, guess who returned. He has never left and our happiness has grown!

@PrettyPriya. Thanks for the tag :-) I met my now husband at my National Guard unit one drill weekend. He's assigned to a different company, but that weekend they brought a bunch of us together in an auditorium to catch up with mandatory training (350-1 training, a lot of which are time-wasters, for those unfamiliar with the Army) prior to an inspection. It was morning until night death by PowerPoint. I was at a picnic table at the side of the building eating my lunch when he walked by and said he remembered me from his grandfather's funeral. I left an indelible impression on him for several reasons. A little boy threw a rubber chicken into the open grave before the final service, and I jumped in to get it and got out without getting a black dress dirty like I'd done it before (I had, but not for a rubber chicken). Secondly, he was walking by me and overheard my dad and I in a quiet argument, but clearly heard me tell my dad to go take a flying fuck at a rolling donut. That stuck with him. I remembered the funeral but I didn't remember him, so he sat down and joined me for lunch. I shared mine with him because he never carried cash (he still doesn't) and the vending machines in the building didn't take credit cards. We had a great conversation, and I felt an instant connection (he later told me so did he), so much so that I made the bold move of asking him out. He politely turned me down because he was seeing someone at the time, but we exchanged phone numbers. He called a few times on National Guard business (legitimate), and we went out for ice cream once when he was in the neighborhood. A few months later he called and asked if the offer for dinner was still open; unfortunately, I had to decline because I'd started dating someone. We went back and forth like this over a year.

Last Fall we had another crash death by PowerPoint day to check some blocks before an inspection, and some from his company joined ours. He casually asked if I was seeing someone, and I no longer was. Neither was he. Eureka! So we made plans for dinner that evening after drill, not realizing how late we would end up getting out. Training didn't end that day until almost 9pm. We agreed to meet at IHOP for a late pancake dinner. I gave him directions, but Mr. I Have Technology said he would just poke it in his GPS. He did, and I drove straight to the agreed-upon IHOP, but it turns out he put in the wrong IHOP - conveniently located in the neighboring state. I went to where he was, and we didn't get it together and get seated until close to 11pm. We had a great conversation, a good late pancake dinner, and just an overall good time. When it came time to pay, he quietly grabbed the check and insisted on paying despite me having been the one who invited him. I agreed, as long as he agreed to let me pay next time, but the next thing that went wrong: the server returned to the table and told him his credit card had been declined. That caused me to giggle, then snort, which most always precedes unstoppable laughter. I found it hilarious, and he was pretty cool about it. I paid (with cash) while he got on the phone to get the credit card issue resolved. That was a great setup for a second date (if he did it on purpose, it would make him both clever and somewhat diabolical, both of which are traits I can admire in a man lol). The rest is history. We married two weeks ago, and are living happily ever after.

So, I never go into a date with any sort of set goal. I go in with an open mind to get to know that person. The last person I met I am still with. We are engaged.

I met him when he came in our office for a foot injury. The first time I saw him wasn't the best time to say anything because he was in obvious pain. However, he had to come back for progress checkup and physio instruction at a later date.

I was ready for that. When he did come back, he had to be discharged through me after the appointment. I struck up some smalltalk with him. I about fell out of my chair when he spoke because of his accent (Aussie and dreamy to this day).

I looked for signs he was interested while we were chatting. He smiled, made lots of eye contact and was engaged in the conversation when he could have just left. I asked if he would like to have lunch with me sometime, to which he replied "It would be my pleasure darling."

We went on our first date. It was magic. Everything. Was. Magic. I could go on and on but that is how it all started.

This encounter never led to a date but it did go further than expected. I went out to eat 3 months after I got my DD-214 to celebrate my release from the military. I would have celebrated sooner but I had to wait for finances to sort out. Whenever I would go to this restaurant I would always get the same waitress and we chatted enough that I can tell when she was not in the best of moods.

I asked her what was wrong and she said her boyfriend just dumped her and bailed, leaving her the full rent to pay for 7 more months of their lease. I asked her if she would tell me what apartment complex she was in so I could find her a potential roommate.

The next day it was my plan to pay her lease while she was at work. However, when I got to the complex I found her outside the leasing office crying. Apparently the boyfriend slapped her when he came back to get his stuff. I went to her landlord and asked what it would take for her to get out of her lease without damage to her credit. The landlord agreed to terminate the lease with no harm to her and a good referral if I could cover 2 months of rent for this waitress, which I did. I offered her my spare bedroom in my apartment for her safety.

We ended up being roommates for about 2 months while she figured out her next move. During that time she taught me how to cook, helped me with math (I decided to go back to college and math sucked for me) and convinced me to get my cats. In those two months she helped me learn a lot about myself as well as she was in school to become a therapist. She is still one of my best friends today.

I went to a New Years party hosted by a friend I went to college with. I only planned on staying for a little while and wanted to go home early. I met a girl there who was the best friend of the host's sister. We both got there early and hung out the whole night. We had an awesome kiss at midnight and after the party broke up we sat in my car and listened to music until the sun came up.
We dated for 4 or 5 months after that. I fell pretty hard for her and was really broken up when she dumped me.

well in 1979 dec I was working as a Medic in Fort Wayne Indiana.
One day I was taking in a Patient to a Nursing home.
and there was this nurse who wanted to date me for like 4 months, but I didn't like her.
the nurse i meant and turned the patient over to, was really cute.
on my way out of the building this other nurse who i didn't like, handed me her phone numbe, and on the back was my late wifes number. I called my late wife 2 days later, we were together 37 years. before she passed in 2018, we were different all the way around, but we loved each other. so our differents did not matter.
