Is it ok to have old pictures of an old partner in your phone if in a new relationship? Should all memories be deleted?

If you think old flame pictures need to be deleted, should we have to delete prom pictures too bc that was another partner and way in the past?

Delete them from everywhere. It’s offensive.

Take them off your phone but save them somewhere else. (A real pain to do)

It just depends on the individuals and the dynamic of their relationship. Some people might have that as a boundary in the relationship - as well as ceasing contact with exes, or blocking them.


I usually don’t mind if my partner has old pictures of an ex in your photos, but I would prefer if they at least delete anything too personal (like nudes/videos). I just wouldn’t want them to look at that, and I think it is a reasonable request.


I have all the pictures of my exes stored elsewhere, like a photo vault because I personally don’t want to see pictures of my ex in my photos. I don’t delete them forever, because they were once in a portion of my life, so I would like to at least remember that or look back later on.


With some of my exes, I have pictures of me doing things for the first time. Like my first time in Arizona, my first time shooting an AR-15, or my first time riding a motorbike. Those are all memories I would like to keep, even if it has my ex in the picture or a reminder of my ex.


My boyfriend has photos of him and his ex on his phone, but obviously, I don’t really care because it’s nothing bad and it’s just memories. I did get jealous at first, because it felt like he was still in love with her. However, that feeling passed quickly, and I realized it’s just an insignificant thing to keep normal photos of an ex, just memories.

Depending on the type of relationship you guys ended on and the experience you had during when the photos were taken. Something as significant as prom I wouldn't delete, but maybe if you guys have any intimate photos of the night, you should get rid of those. Photos for me capture the experience and how you felt when taking them. Any photos that make you think of a bad experience or make you regret doing something with them, you should delete. There is no need for a ugly reminder of something bad to be sitting in your camera roll.

It's not that black and white. Asking to delete prom pictures is weird unless they were in a serious long-term relationship after highschool. In most circumstances I don't see any value in keeping pictures of ex's and it would be weird to want to keep them.

Oh. But are you saying safe for work photos are ok to have?

Yeah, personally, I do think the safe for work stuff is okay to have. I've deleted them from my phone, but not from social media. They still are memories (good and bad) and a part of what made me who I am.

But they are just the safe stuff and I rarely look at them ever.
