Unless you are married, and the separation is absolutely necessary (work assignment, military deployment, etc.), you should NEVER get in or stay in a long-distance relationship. They simply don't work, and they ignore the entire point of being in a relationship: spending time together.

The human brain has a grieving mechanism that starts to emotionally detach from a person once you are apart more than 90 days or so, and once that happens, it's incredibly difficult to maintain the energy and sacrifice that is necessary to make a LDR survive. Only the absolutely MOST committed couples can survive this, and that requires BOTH people in the relationship to be FULLY committed. In the real world, that's very hard to accomplish.

What's even more true is that you should never START a relationship long-distance - which means that you should not be setting your dating apps to "within 50 miles" (much less 100 miles, or 500 miles!) - hell, you shouldn't be using dating apps at all, but if you must, you need to restrict them to 10 miles or less, because if you want any hope of your relationship to survive, you need to be able to see that person OFTEN, and it's just not practical to expect that if they are 30 miles away - much less 100 miles or more.

I dont believe that it was meant for me as I am one that needs to see and feel the person I'm with

Now and saying all the above I also feel that it is meant for something we are all made of energy and when we can connect long distance and you feel it in your body and your heart your mind your soul your spirit it takes you to another place when you can feel somebody's energy from that distance and it is one of the most beautiful things in the world the same as when you were standing right in front of somebody you can feel the same exact thing I think we are all meant to do this we are all capable of doing this and this to teach you something I have had long distance relationships because of all the above because of energy because I can feel the person that I'm talking with and they can feel me and it is one of the most beautiful things you ever feel the people don't allow themselves to even understand it

Tried it, won't ever do it again.

Personally, I'm ok with not having the other person around constantly. Thay actually works really well for me.

What I don't like is not getting a solid read on the person.

My ex (LDR) was able to hide his initial unemployment, his poor hygiene and poor lifestyle, and his addictions (porn and mobile games) from me effectively.

I almost married this loser. Fortunately he couldn't even make it through the move up to Canada he promised.

Now, I know. Unless we're in the same city and able to see each other and live with each other easily, I'm not entertaining it. It's a waste.

I only did LDR because it was over COVID. We started right before the world locked down. If it weren't for COVID, I'd have insisted he move up sooner or left him sooner when it was shown he can't actually follow through with his commitments.

I’m sorry about your experience from the lies that were hidden from you or you were not aware of, I can relate to that.

It's a habit of his that would've cropped up even without LDR. It was just harder for me to notice while LDR.

Honestly, I dodged a fucking missile. I'm thankful.

I’ve done it before. As long as we have intentions of living in the same state/country (not specifically city) within the span of a year then I can make it work. But ideally if long distance, I’d prefer we see eachother in person at least every 3 months. Already living in the same state of course is just so much easier but i won't turn down an LDR if its got potential

It may work during a short period of time like 6 months to one year. I don't think it works on the long term. It's a lot of effort that it's hard to keep up with because people have lives and their jobs.

Yes, however both people must be invested in the relationship md they have to have some sort of endgame where they end up together.

No because presence is paramount in relationships even once married. It’s impossible to have a bonded and trusting Nature.

Yes, because I know a few people who were in long-distance relationships (and still are together, just live together now).

No there shouldn't be distance in a relationship for long, that must be temporary or it won't work.

It's supposed to be temporary and requires too much work and trust... So.. almost always a fail...

I'm in a temporary distant relationship. She's my neighbour but currently studying in another state. We see once in a month or two.

Complete distant relationship would be hard
