Should I be okay with a guy being friends with his ex’s?

He thinks it’s okay to still stay connected with his past. I am secure in myself and I know I am my own best friend. I know the connection we have l. But I am not sure if this is okay? I have a clean background and he doesn’t. I can let my past go he cannot. I have empathy and I understand but the question is is this okay?
