Is it bad I need space after an argument?

So asked my boyfriend to help with my car since he's been driving it. He said I was doing too much even though he paid a lot for other things. So he started to get mad a say hurtful things to me. It was the first time and I don't want to be around him even though he apologized and gave me the money. I need space or else I'll feel uncomfortable.
