My significant other comes first - BUT it's rare that I'm in a position where I have to choose between the two, because I set clear boundaries and expectations in the first place. Of course, I also expect to be treated the same in return from my SO - and I'm also pretty darn reasonable about what I expect from her. I'm certainly not going to go out of my way to make a situation difficult for her and her family, because I wouldn't want her to do that to me.

Family always, we are connected by blood and can't abandon each other. But perhaps me coming from an orthodox country influences how I think.
