My wife joined the army back in April, I got to see her for a day and a half in June, and now she's at AIT till Oct... now im a single dad for the 7 months gone. My wife used to make me videos and send me pictures all the time without even being asked for them, since weve been together. Now I'm just a piece of shit for asking for them or not respecting her... I'm 2700 miles away from her and don't get to see her till October. But for whatever reason now she doesn't want to take them anymore for me. Struggling hard to be respectful and respect her choice... but it's mentally messing me up. ... Am I wrong for being frustrated?

Having served in the Marine Corps infantry, I’m very familiar with those types of games.

All part of training.

War is fluid these days. You might dig a fighting hole one place only to be told: “we’re advancing” and dig another 4 hours later and never have occupied the first you dug.

Plus not much room for error when it’s all on the line.

This new guy where I work was saying some awfully suspect stuff just yesterday. Along the lines of stollen valor. He stated he was prior Army scout 11E I believe, but stated he was attached to Delta in Kosovo.

Anyway he said he got shot in Kosovo. So I said: “wow, so you have a Purple Heart then.” He told me he didn’t know. Right there I didn’t believe him.

In the Corps, for that type of medal you’ll receive it during a formation when they present awards formally. It’s not some National Defense Service Medal where they’ll just toss it in you lap or something.

I was highly suspect a guy was telling me he doesn’t know if he got a Purple Heart or not. I told him it would be right on your DD214.

I have 6 medals and 1 ribbon with a bronze star. I know exactly where and when I got all of them and which ones I have without having to reference my DD214.

So my question is: in the Army, that medal would typically be presented to a recipient at a ceremony or a during a Company or Battalion formation right?

Hell I even got my Good Conduct at a formation and that ain’t crap really.

Commands and controls or serves as member of individual land or amphibious tank crew, this job belongs to tankers or 19 series, not 11s. I had to go look up 11E, cuz now it's only 11B 11C, which are straight up grunts and mortarman, you fall under either one, unless you're a first sergeant or Commander and then it's 11Z or 11A... or I guess X when you hit basic. And if you got a Purple Heart, they would have made a big deal out of it big formation, a whole mess of shit. Not to mention all the bonuses you get w a PH. 🙄 this dude's a SV clown. He may have been in, but his war stories are bogus. You and I both know, when you've been in the suck, that's not a conversation you have with other people. That was my assessment of it all too. I didn’t figure it was any different in the Army than the Corps in regards to presentation and reception of that medal, but I figured ask on the off chance I was wrong.

I deployed twice. I was never wounded, but I know all the guys who were had their medals presented in a formation, with the exception of those who were KIA in which case it was presented to next of kin in a private manner.

Just wanted to confirm that on the off chance things work differently in the Army. If he mentions this stuff again I’m calling him out on it.

I’m pretty sure he was in the Army, but like you said probably a POG. You gotta be stupid to lie about that to another guy who was in the service also.

Not to mention he said he was attached to Delta. I suppose that was possible. I did some training with the SEALS and they taught us how to use C-4 “data sheets” to blow locks and hinges on doors. I’ve also done joint operations with them but we were not directly attached. We’d just slow them down. I can’t see why a scout would be attached to Delta. That’s pretty rare.

Not to mention he was stationed in Germany. I know Delta is out of Ft. Bragg.

And yes you are correct, the whole AE or wherever you are operating is a combat zone. If you’re getting either eminent danger pay or hostile fire pay, you are in a combat zone, and if you are wounded there you will receive a Purple Heart. Not to mention a Combat Action Ribbon in the Corps or a CIB or CMB in the Army.

So I was attached to Seal Team too in Afghanistan, but if Delta is going in if they're taking an attachment with them it's most likely going to be Rangers, like in Mogadishu. And 10th Mountain came in and helped them out as well but we're not directly involved until after all hell broke loose. now group will take Infantry on certain missions but even with us being attached to Team 2 we didn't do a whole lot of direct missions with them. We were just there support bitches if they needed.

Us also. The mission was always the seals. They’d just pull us for security or if there was a possibility of a larger force nearby that they might need a diversion for or to that effect.

We got training on trap missions and embassy take downs and few other things. However they always did the dirty work and we were there for support.
