Both situations happen all over the world. The issue that gave birth to the discussion is probably related to the internet and free discourse. Before that, only some numbers regarding marriages, divorces and birthrates would suggest anything.
People simply suck at talking about stuff, specially during arguments and debates, and the internet is a place where structured arguments and refutations were replaced by short sentences that just appease the crowd. They would demand a full essay to dismantle and refute the argument, but people are too lazy to read anything longer than a tweet's character count. Internet has also been responsible for many other issues related to the discussion, like porn and dating apps.
If women use the term as a copout, I think some do, but it's because of the aforementioned issue I talked about before regarding the ability to communicate. Men have become like that as a response to what women have become and have achieved in the modern world. Both sides speak their mind online and IRL, and they still have to relate to each other in regular life, generating the experiences they talk about. I can't blame any side for what they say or think, but I'm part of one side and am forced to defend it.
First thing most women on this are a bad example of women overall. Most here are angry that they have little control over there own life so they come on here to demean men because no one would care if they said it IRL and the guys they associate with in IRL would probably beat their ass for it.
Most women who act like this this is their coping mechanism. Most have nothing to offer a good man and they know it. So they bait and taunt men. She tries to keep this going as long as she can because when he finally realizes what she's about he just walks away. Then she's back where she started again. Alone, with no prospects.
I feel like you don't quite have it right.
A guy who quietly lives with his dog and goes fishing once in a while is not referred to an an "incel."
Whereas a guy who makes negative generalizations about women is referred to as an "incel" even if he's, like, a married Boomer with four kids.
The word "incel" has been on a journey in the public consciousness where every day it drifts a little closer to being a simple synonym for "pathetic misogynistic."
Both options are kind of correct. Women don’t understand a world in which they don’t have the upper hand in sexual dynamics. They’re used to being pursued and not yet ready to be pursuers.
Also, women, mostly feminists, have been in denial about the pressure society puts on men to be with women, and to provide for them. So the vast majority of people, men and women both, think a man without a woman is no man at all.
It would be nice if these standards would change, but don’t hold your breath.
Well, there are typically a range of opinions on any topic, so some will just be based on false assumptions. That seems to be at play here- voluntarily single men are being lumped together with true incels and falsely labeled.
They say that despite women having a lot of choice in men, they are chasing the top 20% of men and discarding the others as inferior.
And the men they don't value? Well they are more likely to be referenced disrespectfully.
Add to "A" that far too many women are looking for a guy to grab onto so that they can satisfy the craving of their personal biological/reproductive clock - like a parasitic wasp looking to lay her eggs in an unsuspecting host.
