Resenting a whole country because ex comes from there?

My best friend used to date someone from a different country. Since their (very ugly) breakup, she told me that she can't stand anything or anyone from that country because they all remind her of her ex. She feels bad for feeling this way, she knows it's unreasonable, and she wants to change these negative emotions. I never had the chance to date anyone from a different country, so I couldn't really relate and I couldn't give her any advice. Have you ever felt this way? And how to stop resenting a whole culture just because of one person?

It’s ridiculous but I understand that moment of anger overriding your usually logical thought process because your emotions have been dialed to 10 and you’re trying to make sense of it all.


It’s not right and hard as it sounds, looking in the mirror and acknowledging reality is the best way forward oppose to using hate for an entire country because one civilian from that country hurt you.

Let go. Look for the positive things. I dated an indian girl. That relationship didn't work out but I love indian people and food and culture because of choosing to remember the beautiful ways she touched my life.
