Is love really an ELUSION?

Today is the 32nd anniversary of a very special day in my life.
I was thinking earlier today about my dogs and my wife and how much I would miss them if any of them died. In particular, I was thinking of my oldest, Margaux, who is 14y 4m old... I am at the point in life that the end is not far off and I got to be thinking about Heaven and that, for me, Heaven would simply be to be with the ones I love and have no fear about our safety; just live in love.

And then I remembered how I felt 32 years ago and how I was falling in love and actually knew it... and how devastated I would be for the rest of my life after she left me. But, really, my time with her was, to me, Heaven.

It's almost as if I was supposed to answer your question today...

And this is the answer:

Try to think of your own person Heaven and what it would be like and how you would feel.
But then, imagine that Heaven-feeling transitioning from instead of an idea of things and places to a single person. Someone who, once you've experienced them, you never want not to experience them.
That's love. It is not an illusion, but it can be elusive.

In a few days, it will be 29 years since I last saw her. It still haunts me. I never recovered and never felt that way about another human again.

If you've seen the movie "Star Trek: Generations", it would give you an idea.
In this movie is something called the Nexus and it is Heaven incarnate. Once you visit, you never want to leave - you wouldn't leave. The villain in this movie is man named Soran. He comes from a species of long-lived humanoids and for about 80 years, he has been trying to get back to the Nexus after having been taken from it. He is so obsessed with getting back into it, he is willing to destroy a star killing billions of people just to alter the path of the Nexus so it will travel into a planet he plans to be on.
The character of Guinan also comes from a long-lived species and, like Soran, was pulled from the Nexus at the same time. In this scene, she explains what the Nexus is and how it makes you feel.

I suppose it is in a way. You can't touch it really. It's what you feel when you interact with someone that has shown an interest in you that you hoped would notice you... or someone that you have learned over time that you can trust to have your best interest at heart... a million ways literally... but if you can't pick it up and examine it then it must be sort of illusory... the trick is to get another to share your vision, and for you to buy into theirs... so in a way, yes, I think it is.

You can’t touch it, but you feel it. For us it’s an overwhelming feeling of gratefulness and happiness when we do something for each other. It’s sharing your time not because you have to, because you want to. Often times it hits the hardest when you lose somebody in your life, whether it be through death or them deciding not to be part of your life anymore.

Love is just a feeling. "I love you" is worthless. Loving behavior is real, and that's all we get. It's still no guarantee for the future.
