I think irresponsibility is more the issue and in part that is a lack of respect to yourself and others. Responsibility is the first step.
No! Lack of respect isn’t the main issue but one of many issues.
i think nobody is entiteled to respect. respect should be earned, not given freely, cause that devalues the concept of respect.
But then that should go for disrespect as well, right,? Don't disrespect people for no reason
sure. disrespect should also be earned. not given freely.
Agree
i think it's a mistake to confuse common courtesy with "respect".
You learn something new everyday! Thanks for pointing this out.
Found this on Google it makes a lot of sense to me now:
Are respect and courtesy the same thing?
Courtesy is being polite to others. It is when an individual's behavior and mannerisms emphasize politeness. Respect, however, is different to courtesy. Respect can be defined as an admiration for someone because of their qualities or achievements.
@JustAnj
6 myths and misconceptions about respect. Respect is not about liking or admiring; nor is it about reverence, esteem, or awe, as most dictionaries say. It's not putting someone on a pedestal or about certain people deserving respect. It's about treating all human beings with care and courtesy.
I think most people don't even know what respect actually means. I didn't know until I was debating with some guy and I realize we werent even debating over the same thing.
@Brainsbeforebeauty
I LOve your Name by the way.
I always felt like that too, I just totally blacked out on the courtesy part.
Something I had to relearn myself.
Growing up I was taught respect but also taught unhealthy approach behaviors. My parents would argue and fight and my mother would project a lot of negative spiteful energy to my father and he'd respond equally. It was something that I feel affected my ability to communicate well with others especially in disagreements.
@JustAnj thank you 😊
@JustAnj i disagree with the asker. i think your definition is accurate. i think it isn't a myth, that respect has admiration in it. because it is in fact "not" about treating humans with care at all. that is "courtesy", not respect. respect is like a reward for outstanding character qualities. not something you just give everyone.
Respect & manners people forget in this days...
Respect is the new luxury not everyone have it.
We speak of respect, but what about overall kindness. Why respect elders specifically instead of being kind to young and old equally.
That was just an example... I hold the door for anyone, young, old, male, female... It didn't say just respect elders, but why disrespect just because they're older🤷🏼♀️
No we shouldn't disrespect them, but too much reverence for elders is arguably the root of many of societies evils.
Yet noone said that here... And being respectful isn't the same as "reverence"...
Ok fine, respect is good.
No, it’s other circumstances. In the US it’s climate change and the shrinkage of the middle class.
Agreed, respect should be the first priority.
Yes. That's what happens when you take out disciplining your kids properly. Just let them do what the want without consequences. But people are so anti slapping the butt
Having no rules improves children's creativity...
@spg12212122 You mean makes them spoiled, and have no respect? Being a demon child doesn't make you creative, just destructive. And careless.
You can be a good example to them but have no rules they aren't robots and rules makes them rebel.
Its better than having hypocrites as parents telling them one thing and doing the other. Or having rules one parent sets and the other parent contravening that rule.
yes, look at donald trump, he is the type of person that demands respect and loyalty but he is willing to disrespect you and stab you in the back.
Yes, we need more respect for each other
Agree 💯
nope , the main issue is laziness
everyone want to get maximum result with minimum effort , which is ridiculous
No, I think on the contrary that the root to the problems today is that everyone demands respect before thinking how it can be earned.
Yes it plays a big role 😌
I think so
The problem is the crazy left pushing an untenable agenda on the rest of us. This is not about "respect", it's about POWER.
Buddha says that "desires are the root of all suffering".
Absolutely. It is even worse online.
Ehh. Not so much as being afriad to change established norms…
Lack of respect is part of the issue
Yes I do agree with you
I think greed is the root of most problems today
I have absolutely no doubt!
Yes, and self respect most of all.
Lack of moral, ethics and values among young people. Feminism has destroyed women.
I think you mean lack of IQ
OMG yes ! It's brutal
