Sounds like the relationship started off on the wrong foot, getting into one argument and now your relationship is hidden? Also why was he embarrassed to ask you to be his girlfriend? If he really wanted you to be his girlfriend then their shouldn't be any shame involved. I would side eye that heavily, some people will think you're not good enough to be seen with in public but want to be "couple" in private. In my opinion, I don't know about him or the relationship. Some things need to be set in order before continuing.
The real question is... what is there to hide" ? Just because things don't go your way during an argument doesn't mean you go talk to other people behind their back. If you hid your relationship it means you're not proud of being with him or each other. Waste of time.
