Boyfriend isn’t 100% about us?

I was talking casually to my boyfriend of 1 year, about my friend who dumped her boyfriend even tho he gave her gifts and loved her so much. My boyfriend criticized her and said that that’s why he doesn’t give 100% to me because he’s afraid one day I’ll leave. I asked him what he meant he said that in his previous relationship he was sure she wasn’t leaving and she left. I asked if his ex gave him this trauma and he said yes and he’s tough now because he wants to get ready if he we ever break up. I asked him aren’t you sure about us? He replied “nobody knows if it works out or if we ever break up”. I know he loves me, he calls me everyday on his breaks and good morning and good night massages everyday, calls me of my breaks etc. but when he said he wasn’t sure I got really hurt. I hat does it even? Does it mean he doesn’t love me as much or he’s just traumatized? Have you guys experienced this?

Of course he loves you! He is guarding himself as he genuinely thinks he will be hurt again, hence why he is acting all defensive. Just bear with him, he loves you and once he clicks on that you are not there to hurt him, he'll be a lot less defensive. Do tell him how much you care for him.
