Wife vs Girlfriend. whats it all about?

I've read a couple of things on here, which has led my to wonder. I see a lot of women, saying stuff life "if he doesn't propose and you're doing all the housework, you're getting ripped off", or "thats wife duties not a girlfriends" etc etc. And this makes no sense to me, and maybe its based in culture, but why does it matter? I've also seen men talking about it a similar way.

Isn't a partnership a partnership regardless of having it on paper and on a finger? I can understand wanting to marry, and all that, but why does the title matter?

I think what's frequently missed is that marriage is about kids--not about a couple. You get married to have kids. So if you're not about to have kids, you don't need to get married.

But then you have the situation on the durability of relationships. If you're going to have kids, you get married and you have a husband/wife. That should mean you're in it for the long haul. At least as long as you're raising kids which is effectively 18 years--possibly more. But if you're not married, you're boyfriend/girlfriend. That is easier to get out of without any complications.

As to what the people you quoted are saying--I have NO fucking clue. "If he doesn't propose and you're doing all the housework, you're getting ripped off." Seriously? My housekeeper does virtually all of the housework but guess what--I haven't proposed to her either! A dude isn't going to marry a girl because she does housework any more than a girl is going to be stoked to go on a date with a dude because he's a "nice guy who would make her parents happy." lol! Seriously people!

I think women get in trouble when they do what a "Wife" is supposed to do and not doing those things because its who they genuinely are. Then they feel like they are getting screwed over because they are expecting something in return.

That could actually make sense. I just kept seeing people describe their girlfriend role as different from a wives role? which seems odd to me

The same reason you wouldn't buy a house without a title. It's not a legal sale, and if the saler decides to rip you off and take the house back you aren't going to have any proof of rights. Someone who isn't willing to do things the right way and tries to guilt trip you for not trusting their word is a red flag.

I get that with a house or whatever, but while marriage is a legal thing, its not a sale? it seems like an odd comparison, treat your man the same, girlfriend/wife/whatever, makes no sense in my brain lol

It's a type of commitment, just like a large sale is a type of commitment.

There is no higher level of commitment, so why you you want to half-ass is and not make it a legitimate commitment?

There is more to marriage than just children. Such as haring of assets or working while the other goes to school. A marriage protects the sacrifices of the one if the other suddenly leaves after benefitting.

I get the commitment, but I do not understand why it should make a difference in the day to day relationship. Like saying something is a wifes job, not a girlfriends, that must mean, that some people do not believe you act the same way? and why not? I understand what a marriage is lol, but I dont think it should change anything but the legal stuff
