There is no textbook definition, but to me cheating means doing something sexual with someone else while you’re in a relationship. Which includes, but is not limited to, sex, kissing, oral, sexting, exchanging nudes/special photos.


I don’t consider watching porn to be cheating because there’s no one engaging with you, you’re just watching or looking at something, there’s no one on the other side making the effort to send it to you.

There is no textbook definition, because it's entirely subjective. This is why communication is so important and knowing your partner's boundaries are imperative to a healthy and happy relationship. Even among my own friend group, we have disagreements as to what constitutes cheating.

My rule is "if I wouldn't feel comfortable doing/saying this in front my SO, it's probably inappropriate" even if it's not technically cheating.

That's why "open relationships", are, they way they are, they're usually "open" about the fact they want to "be with them", but that want to be able to have sex with others

There IS no "textbook" definition because it's all defined by your partner's level of acceptance. What's totally fine with one person could be totally unacceptable to another. Is there a story here?
