Boyfriend dumped me over a prank, did I go too far or is he over reacting?

So, my boyfriend of two years and I don't ever want children, we are both adamant about it.

So I thought it would be funny to post a positive pregnancy test to facebook, tag all our family and friends, with a little note essentially telling people this was not a prank, I just found out and I was so happy. I didn't tag him, and it was funny when he started getting texts and DMs congratulating him, and he raced to my home to ask me about it, and I couldn't hold it in and burst out laughing and told him "April FOOL!".

Well, he didn't find it funny, he found it "incredibly insensitive" (his words not mine), and said it was a nasty thing blah blah blah, and I told him to get over it, it's just a joke, and well things went downhill rapidly from there and he broke up with me, said he can't be with someone like this, at first I thought this was just an April Fools prank to get back at me but it's been 3 days now and he's not replying to me.

I get it, it was probably a bit of a cruel prank, but surely breaking up with me over this is excessive?

Thoughts? What should I do?

Also, I don't want to hear any judgments about what sort of person I am, stick to the question.

Your prank went so far over the line, that I'm surprised he even did you the courtesy of letting you know that he was breaking up with you. This might not have been such a big deal if wanting children wasn't something that so many women lie about all the time.

I won't make any judgments about you as a person; I don't know you and we've all misread the room. All I will say is this; the reason your joke warranted breaking up is important for you to understand. This was a massive act of disrespect on your part, not a joke. Do you understand why the facebook posts and getting other people involved was what escalates this passed the point of being a joke?

Not only did you knowingly try to make a joke about a core, foundational tenant of your relationship with him; you involved his family and friends and publicly humiliated him in the process by lying and giving him a bunch of awkward conversations he has to have with people to explain your behavior.

I know that if a woman I was thinking about making my life partner did something to publicly disrespect me like that, her ass would be out the door so fast, her head would spin. I don't care how long we've been together. The instant I know that she thinks it's okay to do something to make me look bad to the public, I can't trust her to be unified with me.

Does that make sense?

Ehhh, well, I am firmly childfree myself and I am not sure how I would be affected by that prank.

If it happened to me I would definitely not find it funny but I would not find it to be that much of a big deal either, let alone breaking up over it. Then again it depends on the person you're pranking. I've never been a fan of 1. st April fools traditions and I believe I never will.

I am not gonna say either "don't prank about it" or "he should get over it" about it.

Oh, I’m gonna judge. I hope you grow up soon and realize pregnancy jokes aren’t as funny as you think. Especially, when you post on it Facebook. Those kind of “jokes” people take really seriously. Well too bad your going to get it. You're a dumbass. If you were going to fake a pregnancy, which is still way too much, at least do it between you too. Posting it online, invites others to judge not only you, but also you boyfriend. That's the biggest issue. Don't ever fuck with someone's reputation or social status.

That means he was excited to have a child with you which shows a strong connection, it's foul mostly if you always ranted to him about not wanting a baby and when he thought he was given the blessing of having a child with you, you laughed in his face, sounds to me like it crossed a line and he broke up with you, wouldn't be surprised if he now purposely looks for someone that actually wants a child.
