Anyone ever been in this terribly awkward situation of falling in love with a friend while you're both in relationships? What's the best way to navigate this, how did you figure out they loved you back (or didn't) and what did you do subsequently?
It feels like having a crush where the stakes are much higher because I don't want him to know for 2 reasons - one being that he might not like me back (normal crush reason) and the other because he might think I'm an awful cheating human being (added layer of being in a serious relationship)
I should add that I'd potentially leave my boyfriend for this guy but it's reallyyyy hard to say

You should break up with your boyfriend regardless.
I'm not saying you're a terrible human being. The heart wants what it wants, but it's not fair to him to be in relationship with someone who's out catching feelings for other guys and just keeping him around until something better comes along
In other words, quit wasting his time and let him go so he can find someone better.
He's not a place holder to serve your needs until you're done with him. He's a person
If you would leave your boyfriend for anyone, you should leave him immediately.
You should also leave that other guy alone, he's taken already, go find a single guy you actually like.
