Would you give up a happy, loving relationship to get back with a multiple cheating ex who suddenly came back into the picture?

Long story short, I’ve been with this guy almost a year. He has two adult kids with his ex-wife. The ex-wife abandoned him and their children over and over again more than a decade ago…. she would leave, come back, leave, come back, etc. She also cheated on him, and gave birth to another man’s baby while they were together.

he has never said anything nice about her, and still has a lot of resentment towards her because of how she hurt the children so much emotionally.

but he also told me that during one of the times when she abandoned him, he met somebody new, and fell in love, and was very happy, but then the X popped back into the picture, and he stupidly took her back.

now history is repeating itself with me, and she is trying to weasel her way back into his life, and I feel like he is going to stupidly take her back again. He admitted that he’s cheated on me with her since she came back into the picture about a month ago. He insists that it was just sex and he doesn’t even know why he did it. But I feel like it’s going to become more than that and I’m scared.
