Why do we love watching our loved ones sleep?

Back then when I was in love, I really loved watching my partner sleep, I could watch him for a few minutes and I loved seeing how peaceful and relaxed he was. How rhythmic his heartbeat was, I loved listening to his breath and it made me feel peaceful too. I just could put my head on my hands and watch him for a few minutes before falling asleep myself.

The same was true for him, I often woke up to him watching me sleep.

I wonder why do we like watching someone we love sleep?
