When intensity grows too high, some people choose to back away, not wanting to feel overwhelmed or expected to maintain that same intensity. You may be drawn to intensity, so you're probably better off around others who are also drawn to intensity. Choose people who are compatible with you rather than expect others to change for you or expect yourself to change for others. There is nothing wrong with being true to who you are, but there's also nothing wrong with being different. Differences aren't a judgment of you or them.
