My boyfriend expects me not to talk to my friend because they don't like each other due to reasons of their own. Is that fair and fine?

My boyfriend and my friend don't like each other (due to some fallout among themselves) and my boyfriend expects me not to meet him. He said he would've done the same in case he had a friend I didn't like and he/she didn't like me either. On the contrary, I feel our relationships with our respective friends should be independent, unless something is insanely wrong and fishy. Am I right in thinking so?

You are not responsible for his relationships with other people. The most I’d recommend is to keep social interactions between them separate and hopefully this blows over. It sucks that things have to be this way but I think you’d regret it tremendously if you terminated a perfectly fine friendship for reasons that weren’t your own. Especially if you and him broke up at some point.
