Me personally, if my boyfriend (I don't have one) didn't understand it, even just a bit, I'd question their ability to comprehend other pieces of literature. It was clearly a lighthearted, funny movie with an easy to grasp concept. Which is kinda important to me, but I'd try to explain it before I dump anyone.

Barbie (the main character) had an ignorant take that all was good and sexism had been solved in her land and in the real world, and contrary to it sexism was still happening in the real world AND in her world, just to the kens in her world.

Ken (The main character) was meant to be Barbie's boyfriend without any other real purpose but to be a "trophy boyfriend". He'd always do things to try and get her attention and when he didn't get it he'd feel pretty down in the dumps cause thats what he based his self worth on without even realizing it. When he went to the real world he took up an "patriarchy" lifestyle and brought it to the other Kens and they all took it to the extreme cause they were experiencing a sense of self worth that felt good and that they didn't think revolve completely around the Barbie's but also did without them realizing.

All in all, It was basically a Barbie's and Ken's shouldn't be against each other but rather work together, treat each other well, and you are Kenough type of message.
