In laws want to stay at me and my partners house for a week but I don’t want them to. Thoughts?

My partner and I own a house. The in laws are coming for a week and want to stay in the house. I like them but I would prefer that they stay in a hotel because I enjoy my freedom. Should I grin and bare it for a week or tell my partner I’d prefer them to stay in a hotel?

Why do you say "in-laws" and "partner"?

"In-laws" imply "spouse" not "partner".

If there is a possibility of marriage with this "partner", then you shooting the partner's parents down puts you on their shit side and, even before you are married, you put yourself behind the 8-ball. Family means sacrifice. They asked to stay because staying in a hotel for a week can be very expensive. Maybe, if you let them stay, they may make it up to you by taking you and their child/your partner out to dinner on them.

Talk to your partner. Explain that it's not that you don't like them but rather you enjoy your alone time and it would be too much people in your house for 7 days. And let your partner know that it's not a personal attack. You have every right to have some peace and quiet in your own house.

When you know Grandpa's going to be in the kitchen and you're just waiting for Grandma if you were to grin and bear it right there I mean I think that they would probably go get a motel room lol and if you didn't more than once or twice hell they might not even come back LOL

My in-laws come to visit multiple times a year and I have no issues with it at all. It's just for a few days. No that big of a deal.

Families used to all live together in a small space (in some cultures they still do). Coming to visit isn't a commitment like living together for years. You're kinda being a brat.
