How long does it take for someone to leave an abusive relationship? why do they never take your advice when you’re only trying to help?

my sister is in an abusive relationship. she has a child with this person as well and she thinks “well.. he could change”
that’s not the case. everyday it gets worse. what do you do? i hate seeing her getting this type of treatment and it’s not fair.

I'm sure she is listening to your advice at the same time you have to remember that she may not be in a good mental state to actually hear the advice. She could also be terrified that if she leaves he will harm the child because so many abusive people do murder the child to get back at the woman for leaving him.

My cousin was in an abusive relationship, he bashed her so many times, he even tries to set her on fire. Probably took like 20 or more years before she had the courage to finally leave him.

Took me ten years and two kids. The trauma bond is hard to get away from.
