Why do some highly attractive parents make average children and some average parents make gorgeous children?

My parents were very attractive, I am just average.(My brother is gorgeous though)

On the other hand, I’ve seen some people who are gorgeous and then saw the pics of their parents and they just looked pretty average.

What’s with genetics?

First off attraction is extremely subjective. A cousin, as example, likes Arabics. One of his sisters is married to an African (professional) from Chad. His other sister to a Japanese man. His brother married a Finnish girl. Couldn't get anymore different.

Aside from that genetics is funny.

I'm blonde, grey eyed, and fair skinned in real life. Many think I burn in the sun, I actually tan. Some Scottish don't burn & then you throw in Mediterrian ancestyr as well.

Out of ENTIRE - cousins, etc. - living family I am 1 of 3 blondes. I am the ONLY blonde who has curly hair & 1 of 5 with curly hair; everyone else has wavy or straight hair.

You go back to old family photos and my appearance - hair color, texture, curls - is a dead ringer for my mother's father's mother's father. THAT is how random genes are.

This is so subjective. What one person is going to find attractive another won't. Also, someone's looks can be completely altered after with braces, makeup, clothes, etc. Two parents could have what one thinks is an unattractive child, only to grow out of their ugly duckling phase. Also, parents who spoil and shelter their children and don't let them become adults and do things to please themselves like wear makeup or date, are likely going to seem immature and stunted in life. Looks don't always play a part in that.

I think of it like those shows that do make overs on people. With a little help from clothes and a nice haircut with some other grooming, one can literally look like a different person.

For one thing, not all characteristics are inherited. For those that are inherited regression to the mean is one major factor and why children often don't look much like their parents. it's important to remember that it's not just the genes of the parents. it Is also the genes of all of the children's ancestors going back quite literally thousands of years. Combine all those genes and you are essentially dealing with random chance.

No, there really is no genetic advantage of any consequence, assuming that the person you pick doesn't have some sort of genetically transmitted disease. There may be a slight advantage in terms of things like height, but in general it's the luck of the draw every time you have a child.

Genetic diseases like cancer, diabetes and heart diseases? My ex had a family history of all of them, but I of course never cared about any of them even though staying with him meant taking care of his ill father and sister. I was all into it.

Genetics is just like cooking. Sometimes, you mix all the ingredients and the food tastes great. Other times, you mix the exact same ingredients and the food tastes completely different.

Genetics play a role. But also if the parents take really good care of themselves. Most people can look good. If I let myself to. I can be a 5. But I can also be w 8,9, or 10

the thing is that depending on your gender your parents hotness has a lot or not so much influence on how you'll turn out. for girls if their parents are hot she'll be hot. if she's not is that she was unlucky and inhereted some more average traits from more distant relatives or ancestors or that her parent's hotness isn't natural. for guys its much more random (like its influenced by how hot the parents are but a lot of it is left to chance) so if your hot you can get a hot son or an average looking one. but its very unlikely you'll get an ugly one

since guys hotness is more random a lot of average looking people have hot sons, but not typically hot daughters. if they do they probably have some hot grandparents

Its the way their genes fit together. Like, two separate statues might look good by themselves, but if you take pieced form each and just randomly put them together, the new statue might not look good.

It's not a perfect analogy, but you get the idea.

It also works the opposite with the bad genes. You just never know what your going to get.

Genetics can go back thousands of year, 2 people can create thousands of different children. The combinations are pretty much endless. Especially when you have parents of two different ethnic backgrounds.

God has a weird sense of humor. I had 3 kids and they all are outstanding college graduates. I knew a few guys that were just as attentive to their kids as I was and yet their kids fell off the track and never got back on. It is just a big crapshoot.

I have some cousins that are wildly different. The older girls are middle of the road, and the younger girls are practically models.

Some kids get the best of both parents. There is also an odd phenomenon of a pretty girl who looks like her average dad. His nose was small and lips were large, which looked off on a man but looked perfect on the daughter.

Genes are like a lottery. If your parents are good looking it means you have quality genes in the pot but doesn't mean they are going to be drawn.
