im taking my partner out to dinner tonight for our anniversary and I just asked her to send me a snap of what she’s wearing and she sends me this?

she’s wearing a T-shirt with pants?
She’s an Astro physics major and her whole life revolves around science and shit so she usually incorporates sciencey shit like t shirts she gets for free at conferences and so on

My guess is, since you are posting anonymously, that you are from a country where the freedom of having their choice of clothing to wear is not warranted. Thus I presume that you must be from Saudi Arabia or some very conservative country that imposes a dress code to women. Congratulations!

If she is proud to show that she is super intelligent by wearing this t-shirt, then let her do it. You don't have to wear a tuxedo either but you can go to that dinner wearing something simpler. There is no need to show off unless that fancy place of yours has a dress code.

I do fear that you are the controlling type of person since you asked your partner to show you a picture of what she intends to wear. You did it so that you can judge and if necessary, dictate her to wear something else that is more to your liking. Allow me to say that this kind of behavior is more than simply toxic.

It is supposed to be an anniversary dinner and not a funeral. Let her wear something she is comfortable in and that she is proud to wear. You will get much better understanding than if you force her to wear something that YOU want.

Dude, I wouldn't call her out or criticize what she wants to wear. It's your anniversary, so the goal should be making her feel good, not pressuring her into something she's not comfortable with. Maybe ask if she wants help choosing an outfit together, but accept whatever she picks. Focus on having a great time together, not what she's wearing. This shirt ain't so bad. I mean yeah it's pretty basic but at least the colors look nice. And she's into all that science nerd stuff so it makes sense that's her vibe. If you wanna spice it up a bit though maybe offer to help pick something out together? Like you said it's a special night so see if she'd be down to wear something a little dressier.
