How do you handle the distribution of household chores between you and your SO?

We split all household chores evenly

S/he does the chores they are best at, and I do what I'm best at, we sometimes rotate

We rotate chores so no one person has to do all of one thing all the time

I prefer to do X chores, because I know s/he prefers to do the other X chores, we don't rotate

We both agree in hiring someone else to do the household chores

We just argue back and fourth until someone breaks down and does the chores

My wife and I generally partition the chores because our schedules are different. Since she has to be on phone calls to India at 6 AM, she's usually up by 2 to 4 AM. But, I often don't got to work until 9AM, so, when she is in bed, I do the dishes. I do not have a problem with that because I like to make sure that she has a clean coffee pot when she wakes up.

But, we are also flexible a bit. So, for instance, if she's away, I do all the chores. If one of us is sick, the other does all the chores.

Meanwhile, my attitude is "If there's a chore to be done, do it." I USUALLY do a chore right away, but sometimes I wait. (For instance, if I know the garbage back will be full soon but not yet, I won't take it out.) However, both of us have slacked off at times. For instance, when she eats and puts her dishes in the sink, it'd be nice if she'd just rinse them off quick so nothing hardens that I have to later soak before putting it in the dishwasher. For me, she gets on my case if I have a large trashbag in the utility room (because it's not full yet) and didn't take it out to the dumpster.

More or less, we do what we have to do. I do not mind doing chores at all; it's my exercise. And she can't complain that I don't do them or help out. If anything, I should be the one complaining, but my wife does a lot.

She is Chinese and her cooking style is very different from my style. Most people consider me to be a good cook but she prefers her own cooking, so. . . she cooks meals in the evenings, and cleans the kitchen afterwards. I do everything else. The time required for each of us is fairly equal, and I don't care. It makes her happy.

We had outside help. He got all the dirty clothes/towels, etc. Into the hamper. She would take that to the laundry 🧺 and wash them. He would put everything away when she brought it back all nice and folded.

He wrote out the grocery list and took inventory of what we needed. The helper got the list and did the grocery shopping and he put it all away..

He cleaned the bathroom, made the bed everyday and did all the cooking.

That and more is why I miss him so much RIP guy!

House chores are my job, though he does volunteer to help me out when I want. He works more than I do, and most of my hours are elective and often from home. It just works out best with this arrangement so that we can spend most of his free time goofing off together.

He cooks, I eat. He does the laundry, I wear the clean clothes, he fixes the car, I drive it. My hubby is stay home dad. But we have 2 cleaning ladies. I also don’t wNt him to cook all the time.. so he cooks for fun and other times we eat out or order out.

why don’t you just get cleaning ladies?

I expect her to pick up after herself and that includes all chores. Clean as you go. PERIOD. I take care of all maintenance on both my house, land (over 10 acres) and the house. I wash my own clothes, towels etc and wash all pots, pans and dishes as I finish them.

I've done this for over 30 years. We are adults. Take care of your self and your own messes. If she can't pick up after herself then I do not need her in my house. There is the door.

I do all the chores because I live alone other than when my daughter comes back from college. I have 2,950 sq. ft. to clean and another 1,250 sq. ft. bunkie space overtop of the boathouse.

I dry/wet vacuum rugs, wet mop hard floors, dust, and scrub the three washrooms weekly, sometimes more if people are visiting.

In all likelihood if I ever have a wife or a live-in girlfriend, I will do most of the chores. I am a clean / hygiene freak and I do not generally trust others to clean the way I require. I do have a maid service come in, usually twice per week, and they do a great job.
