What are some good examples of transactional relationships that you know or may have experienced and was it good or bad for you?

I have never had such an experience but I would like to experience what transactional relationship is. What can you say about this subject?

In the realm of transactional relationships, a positive example might involve a mentor-mentee dynamic where the mentor provides guidance and support, and in return, the mentee shows gratitude and actively applies the advice. This exchange fosters mutual growth and benefits both parties.

Conversely, a negative example could be a coworker who only helps others when there's something to gain, creating an atmosphere of insincerity and opportunism. In this scenario, the relationship is solely based on what each person can extract from the other, lacking genuine connection or collaboration.

Transactional relationships, when driven solely by self-interest or immediate gains, can be akin to riding a rollercoaster, but not the exhilarating kind. They often lack the stability and authenticity needed for meaningful connections, resembling a ride filled with unexpected drops and sharp turns, leaving participants feeling disoriented and unfulfilled.

Every relationship is transactional.

Selfless love would have to mean that you derive no personal pleasure or happiness from the company and the existence of the person you love, and that you are motivated only by self-sacrificial pity for that person’s need of you. I don’t have to point out to you that no one would be flattered by, nor would accept, a concept of that kind. Love is not self-sacrifice, but the most profound assertion of your own needs and values. It is for your own happiness that you need the person you love, and that is the greatest compliment, the greatest tribute you can pay to that person.

So you can see there is no such thing as a non transactional relationship. When you love someone, you don't love them out of pity because they love you.

No you love them because you are selfish and you want them in your life.

That is how it goes. It's not a bad thing. It cannot work any other way. Nobody wants pity love.

The most basic transactional relationships are jobs. Your employer pays you and keeps you around for a service you provide. Another is doing it eating at a restaurant. You pay for a service or an item and the other part provides the service or item. These transactional relationships are actually good and beneficial.

When transactional relationships extend our of the wider societal realm into the personal realm they become a very bad thing. A significant other who is only happy with you when you are willing them with gifts, or when you are providing sex, or when you're doing all the cooking and cleaning and providing for them, all are negative. A "friend" who keeps you around only because of what you can do for them isn't a friend you want to have. These transactional relationships are fairly common, and always negative.

Relationships should be about what you can offer them. Not what you can get from them. Loving someone is about giving. But, that person should also respect you and your boundaries.
