Kids first equals failed marriage?

Do you think parents who put their kids as top priority above themselves can have a happy relationship with their spouse/significant other or does that always lead to separations/divorces?

I'm very interested to know why you choose whichever answer you choose. So far there hasn't been one relating to the relationship aspect.

If you say kids come first always, could you say if you are currently in a relationship or have kids of your own and if you feel you have a good relationship with your significant other with that mindset? I'm really just trying to make sense of that phrase, how it started, and if it really is beneficial

Your kids will be your priority for at least 18 years. You have to find a good balance and never forget to give attention to your partner.

Could you give some examples or more detail of what that involves and why?

Have some me time with your partner. Go on dates. Do simple things for them. Be affectionate. Express your love to them. This is the most challenging in the first few years after having a child as the child is so dependent on you that's why couples need to realize that having kid is going to cause a huge impact in your marriage as is not always in a positive way. The good thing is that it's going to be temporarily. Delegating tasks on how to raise a child can be a good idea.

But does that always end in a failed relationship? If so then why is that the believed way of priority? Therapists are saying the opposite of what you said

Kids come first. I wouldn't be with a partner who didn't feel the same.

But if kids comes first then what's the point in being in a relationship if you don't designate time for each other?
