I think it’s more according to mood than formula or so. The only important thing is making sure to respect the partner if they wish to stop and also seeing if they still care for you afterwards.

Them saying stop could be a needed break, a limit on their comfortability with physical touch, or a lack of interest/dying interest for their partner. So figuring them out enough to know which one it is exactly would be helpful for both members in the long run.
