So it is not unusual at all to have to have it resized.
He could have "borrowed" one of your rings for the size but didn't realize that there is usually a difference between your left and right hand if you are right-handed your ring finger is usually about a half size larger, lefties are usually the same, or you wore it on a different finger. The jeweler could have also told him if it doesn't fit bring it back and we will measure her finger, so we only have to size it once, which is better than sizing it a couple 2 3 times.
Most stores just stock rings in the stock size.

This is probably not the best answer but I'll share my opinion. While it's a nice gift, at this point in my life, I wouldn't be interested in a promise ring. In fact, I'm skeptical about promise rings. This usually happens among younger folks during their HS or early college years and many of them break up. Are you guys planning to get married soon? Have you established a timeframe?
A promise after all is only a promise. While you stated he has promised to commit, he hasn't committed (propose) yet. Be careful not to fall for too many promises and in the end, you never get your marriage proposal.
Congrats on the promise ring! I think it’s cute when couples do that because it shows that they are serious about you and want to have a future with you. I’d still be careful though not saying it will happen to you but look at what happened to Jess and reed on tik tok. Sad..

I dated a girls in high school 4 years and gave her a diamond promise ring and I though i was going to marry her and wanted to marry her but it did not work out I still love her and that was back in the 90's they people dont seem to do those any more around here
That’s okay. sizing can easy be adjusted. Truth me told, I never understood the purpose of promise rings. Does that mean he plans on marrying you one day? What is he promising?

I got my ex a promise ring back when we were still together which was 9 years ago. Apparently a “promise ring” meant nothing to her as she, like the other 2, cheated on me and she had left the ring on a fire hydrant somewhere I know not where…was just a waste of money on my part.
He's so lucky to have you. Just take the ring to a jewelry store or goldsmith for sizing. The place he bought it from may do it for free.
