How would you feel if your father or your mother came out as gay?

Didn't happen to me, but to one of my friends. His mother (already divorced) came out as gay and in a relationship with another woman. My friend was a bit shocked but got used to it.

Honestly I wouldn't be too bothered. Ironically enough, my father had some very "fabulous" mannerisms, but everyone who knew him said he was exclusively into women.

I'd be proud of them. Frankly the way my mother reacted to me coming out as bisexual, I wouldn't be surprised if she was closeted herself.

I'm an adult. I'm also queer.
As far as I'm concerned, if my parents can live their lives as their authentic selves and be in fair health and good enough wealth to pay for themselves, then I am a happy kid.

I don't have a relationship with them, now, but I'd still want for them to live their truth and be themselves. Even if only for their later years.

I know what it's like to have to live in secret. To not be seen. Even though I don't particularly respect or like my parents, even they deserve to live their truth and be seen, proudly.

Sometimes it hereditary. I found out my grandmother was. But married a man cause it what “expected of her”.

But I don't think science has proven it hereditary or genetic.

My father died in 2007 and was a womanizer and lothario but never indicated any interest in men. My mother is alive, 93 years old, and as traditional as a person can be. She and my father were married for 35 years; she eventually remarried and has been married to her second years. I am not expecting to hear any shocking announcements from her.

If that had happened while they were still alive, I would have been surprised, and probably wouldn't have liked it. That would have been years ago, when I was younger and more fixed in my ways. As I've gotten older, I've become more understanding of people.

No way my old man would have even if he was. Way too old skool. I’m fairly certain my mother is at least bisexual. “Any port in a storm!”, she used to say. And there are unconfirmed stories about her “rolling” when she was in reform skool.
