I feel really incompetent?

Hi, I am a month in on my new job as a direct support professional. I’ve had 6 years of healthcare experience. Anyways, it’s pretty straightforward. There’s a few minor things I’ve been corrected on, just because of policy changes. Anyways, this morning I gave meds and was going to give this individual breakfast. And one of the fellow workers said they usually wait 30 mins before giving him breakfast. I know I’m suppose to let the cereal soak cause he has no teeth, but 30 mins? I said “are you sure? I don’t see it in his book” and she’s been there for longer so I just went with it. I told her “thanks for letting me know.” And then she said I put the cereal in the wrong bowl cause he tends to get it all over in the other bowl so she educated me on that part.

I feel so stupid, I’m still new and learning but I couldn’t help but to feel so dumb. Will experience get me more confident? Should I give it time? I am afraid of messing up super bad. This is my first time working with people with disabilities, I love the home I work at. It’s calm, these guys are non verbal but it’s amazing how much non verbal communication you can pick up. She was super nice about it, I wouldn’t let someone barge in and be mean about it.

I feel like a fish out of water and I’m sure my coworkers think I’m dumb.
