How many people are very naive when young but got lucky with the first partner?

After I've heard how my paternal great-grandparents met (both now deceased), this is the part that impressed me the most:

My great-grandfather (then 24) had to take a train and go on a business trip to make more money. He promised to return to get married within a year or less, no more and to just wait for him, that he'll come back. He was her first love. He returned 9 months later and did as promised. He could've easily forgotten her, moved on with his life and she would've continued waiting endlessly for nothing. She was very naivee and shy back then. Many people in the family and those that knew her commented that she really got lucky he wasn't a liar nor user. Meanwhile he was decribed as an honorable man with integrity.

How many people actually had that luck, where they would've easily gotten taken advantage of but the other person just doesn't have the character to do it? How many are lucky are like?
