Why does it make my eyes teary when my ex calls me and tells me “If you ever need me, I am always here for you”?

The other day, he had to contact me related to one of our shared accounts in the past.

And at the end of conversation, he told me “I am not messaging you to make you worry, I am messaging you because I want to help you and I don’t want to cause you any problems. Hope you know, whenever you have any problem, or need me, I am always here. Just call me.”

I politely told him “Thank you ☺️” and that was all, but it made my eyes teary, to see that a man I loved wholeheartedly and the man who loved me, even though years passed and we both have our own life, still cares for me and still wants to make sure that I always know I can have his back…

That's a fairly common thing for a guy to say to an ex. Even after moving on, many of us guys remember the feelings we had, and would be there if our ex ever needed our help. I am divorced and remarried, but if my ex-wife ever needed my help, and asked for it, I'd be there to help. From my experience, that almost never happens from a woman.

I've said similar things in the past myself. I hate that after a relationship it's like you're expected to automatically hate the person or view them in disgust now.

I would never ask for help from him, even if I did. I had my leg broken, was jobless and disabled for 3-4 months, he called me because he wanted to help me, I told him I am doing great and thanks for care, but I am wonderful.
