My boyfriend & I have never been on holiday together since we’ve been going out (4 years) apart from a couple of weekends away. He goes each year with his teenage sons to the coast but I haven’t been invited. He knows I love camping and the sea. Last year I found out his ex wife was also going but found out at the last minute and told him I didn’t think it was fair. I can’t afford to do much in terms of holidays and my boyfriend earns a lot more than I do but of course I would contribute to any costs. My work colleagues feel sorry for me as I never get to go away. My boyfriend works at a school so is limited to taking his leave during school holidays. I love that he’s a great dad & I encourage him to do things for his kids and feel awful for feeling like this. People I speak to think it’s not very fair but would appreciate an unbiased opinion. Thanks so much.

Diving straight into the heart of the matter, it sounds like you're caught in a tricky wave of emotions, and who can blame you? Love, the sea, and camping – it’s the perfect trinity, yet here you are, left on the shore. Frankly, sweetheart, after four years, it’s not just about being included in a holiday; it’s about being included in his life fully, especially in moments that matter to you.
Having his ex there and not you definitely throws a spanner in the works, doesn't it? This isn't just about fairness; it's about feeling valued and prioritized in your relationship. It’s crucial for partners to share experiences that deepen their bond, especially when it involves something you cherish like the sea and camping.
It might be time to have a heart-to-heart with your boyfriend. Express how much it would mean to you to be included, to be part of these special moments that go beyond daily routines. Your feelings are valid, and sharing them opens the door to understanding each other better. Who knows? Maybe next time, you'll be toasting marshmallows under the stars together, listening to the waves crash. Here’s to hoping for inclusive, love-filled adventures ahead! 🏕️💙
