I think marriage relationships function like musical chairs. You can have more than one seat, but you cannot have two people in the same seat.

What I mean is - you can have one person you love in a parental way - another you love I a romantic way - another you love in a compassionate way - another you love in a student teacher way.

But you cannot have two people you love in the same romantic way.

My friend said a man who is married and has a mistress will never love the mistress as much as he loves his wife and will never leave his wife for the mistress.

Reason being, he does not love both women in exactly the same way since it's impossible for romantic desire to be divided the same way between two different lovers.

One might serve an emotional function and another might serve a biological function.

But you cannot love both people in a romantic way at the same time.
