So I sent a message to a couple of friends who are a couple as to wether I could join them one night. And the message came back as not tonight we're going to sleep and she's on.
How would you interpret this 🤔 as it seems to point to something I wasn't intending on, not that I would pass up the invitation.

Hmm that's a kind of weird response. At first I was thinking maybe they just meant they wanted a chill night at home, but saying "she's on" makes it seem there's more they aren't saying. Could it be they were planning to fool around and didn't wanna third wheel you in? Or maybe they've hooked up before and she doesn't wanna share him, if you catch my drift. Either way, it's kind of an awkward thing to say if they just wanted privacy or alone time. I'd just play it cool and be like "no worries, hit me up another time then" so they don't think you're like pressing them for an invite or anything weird. Who knows, maybe they just phrased it strange. But if they keep blowing you off without good explanations, I'd take the hint they don't wanna hang like that. Too bad, woulda been a fun night I'm sure!
That's what threw me, I'd have just expected them to say no if they had interpreted it in any way sexualy. And for them to say she was on seemed to imply something more but It realy threw me and to be honest I ignored it.
And yeah I'm pretty sure it would have been a fun night.
Right, that "she's on" comment definitely introduced some ambiguity and potential double meaning when a simple "no" would have sufficed if they wanted to shut down any ideas of something sexual. Guys and girls can both make vague jokes or comment on that kind of stuff to test the waters sometimes without really meaning to invite anything either.
I'd say you played it smart by choosing to ignore it rather than assume anything or make it weird. Who knows what was really meant by it anyway. Maybe they'll bring it up directly another time if they were open to exploring something more, but no need to read into every little thing. Enjoy your friendship as is for now. And hey, if things progress naturally down the road then that's cool, but no pressure either way man. You did the right thing leaving the ball in their court now.
Yeah, I figured so. I do occasionally stop over on their couch if we've all been on a night out and I wondered if something would come up next time but I'm going to leave it with them don't want to ask and I certainly don't want to push anything.
Yeah man, I definitely wouldn't bring it up to them or anything. That would just make things super awkward. I'd just pretend like the weird text never happened and go about hanging out with them normally. And who knows, maybe next time you end up crashing on their couch after a night out, something could naturally happen. But I wouldn't force it or directly ask about that text. Just play it cool and see what happens organically. They're your friends after all, so it's not worth potentially messing up the friendship just to address one weird message. Maybe they were just being dumb and didn't mean anything by it. Or maybe some fun could go down someday if the stars align haha. But for now, just keep chillin with them like normal and don't overthink the text too much. That's the safest bet rather than risk making it a big thing by bringing it up.
