It depends if the other person is:

1) asking for feedback in the first place

2) if telling them the brutal truth is going to help them improve or not.

Some people use the excuse that they are “brutally honest” as an excuse to bully and abuse other people. Especially if the other person wasn’t asking for feedback in the first place.

Also if you are being being brutally honest with something is it over something they can change/improve upon (body weight, career motivation, attitude towards others, etc) or is it over something difficult or impossible to change (past mistakes, aging, balding, being the wrong height, etc.)?

I think the majority of us , both men and women , tell small lies to each other in relationships at least compared with the “brutal” truth in your question taken in literal terms. We perhaps tell them in arguements to win a round , maybe we tell them to make the other feel better because we think that’s what they need at that moment. Many of don’t even really regard these as lies and perhaps that’s a slippery slope but I would never beleive that anyone is 💯 percent honest all the time.

It's not just lie or truth, it's also how u say it. You can say your hair is messy today let me fix it, without saying you're ugly and messy and lazy or whatever some dipshit may consider harsh "truth" when rlly it's just harsh for no reason.
