Let’s see here. This is how the dating process usually progresses into love:

• you notice someone attractive
• you say hello to them
• if they respond well you get their contact info and ask for a date
• if you are lucky they agree to a date. One of you usually makes a move to kiss and potentially more within the first few dates. Or maybe you stay old school and do courtship. But either way you are dating.
• the pace of the relationship can vary but at some point someone (hopefully both people) starts to feel “in love”

So who usually gets rejected in the very beginning? Who usually makes contact first? Who usually asks for a date? Is it the woman or the man? We both know it’s usually the man and he’s usually the one sticking his neck out. He is usually the one who has to deal with rejection.

So if the first three steps don’t happen, is love even possible? Extremely unlikely. And just having a “crush” on someone who doesn’t know they like you isn’t “love”. No.

Also men have more deep feelings of love more often then you will ever realize. But the reason why we don’t express them as often as women is because we much further to fall if it doesn’t work out. We not only feel love as an emotional connection but we see at as a real pledge of loyalty. Love means something much deeper to us vs a “feel good emotion”.

We also have a much harder time recovering from legitimate heart break. A man sobbing over heartbreak more often looks weak and pathetic. This why we don’t express our feelings of “being in love” as often as women. It’s a lot more risky for us

But make no mistake men feel very real pain after break ups. The exact same pain women do but we just internalize it more.

When all else is even (looks, personality, status, etc.) women have always the advantage in dating, relationships and yes in love. This was Mother Natures way of “evening the gender score” and giving women an inherent advantage over men given that men historically had other advantages. I do see the point that you're making and I would agree to an extent. I think that most women really only love an idea they have about a man. And I think a lot of women do love a man romantically, but are not exactly sexually attracted to him. Lots of women look at a guy and see him as great relationship material and would be the type to make a great father, they are enamored with him in that sense, but they're still sexually attracted to men they would never even marry.
